Uttarakhand: Survey of 170 km Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line completed, DPR ready, Railway Minister gave information in the House

Delhi/Dehradun: Field survey for Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line (170 km) has been completed, along with this the detailed project report has also been prepared. In this report, the cost of the project has been estimated at Rs 48,692 crore. But the traffic possibilities in this project are low.

This information was given by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday in response to a question asked by Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar MP Ajay Bhatt. Told that after the detailed project report is prepared, consultation with various stakeholders including state governments and approval of NITI Aayog, Finance Ministry is necessary for approval. Since approving projects is a continuous process, no fixed time limit can be fixed.

Railway Minister Vaishnav said that the budget allocation for rail infrastructure in Uttarakhand has increased by about 25 times. The budget has increased from Rs 187 crore per year in 2009–2014 to Rs 4,641 crore in 2025–26. As of April 1, 2025, three new rail lines of 216 km length were approved in the state at a cost of Rs 40,384 crore.

The distance between Delhi and Dehradun will be reduced by 40 km

According to the Railway Minister, the Deoband–Roorkee new rail line project (27 km) has been completed, which will reduce the distance between Delhi and Dehradun by about 40 km. Work is progressing rapidly on the Rishikesh–Karnprayag rail line (125 km). Out of the total perimeter of 213 km, tunneling work of 199 km has been completed. Nine more bridges approved

It was told that Dehradun, Haridwar Junction, Harrawala, Kashipur Junction, Kathgodam, Kichha, Kotdwar, Lalkuan Junction, Ramnagar, Roorkee, Tanakpur stations in Uttarakhand have been selected for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Also, 106 road over bridges and road under bridges have been built in Uttarakhand between 2014–25. Nine more such bridges are proposed, for which 158 crores have been approved.
