Dehradun: On the occasion of the New Year, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inducted 100 new buses into the fleet of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. He flagged off the buses from the Chief Minister’s camp office. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also dedicated 10 AC and 2 sleeper contract buses to the public. He also released the Transport Corporation’s souvenir “Anvarat” and a calendar based on road safety, and honored dedicated employees who have worked diligently and honestly in challenging circumstances.
The Chief Minister said that these new buses, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, will strengthen the state’s public transport system. This will provide passengers with safe, convenient, and affordable travel facilities and will also give new impetus to the state’s economic, social, and tourism activities. He said that in Uttarakhand, with its difficult and mountainous geographical conditions, a robust transport system is extremely essential for both citizen convenience and economic development.
The Chief Minister said that the government is continuously working to strengthen the Transport Corporation. So far, more than 13 new bus depots and workshops have been completed, while work is in progress at 14 other locations, including 4 ISBTs (Inter-State Bus Terminals). Electric buses will also be included in the corporation’s fleet soon.
He informed that modern facilities such as GPS, CCTV cameras, e-ticketing, fleet monitoring, and timely maintenance are being ensured in the corporation’s buses, which will strengthen the safety of both passengers and employees. The government has taken steps to address the interests of the corporation’s employees by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA), implementing the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, and filling manpower shortages through new recruitments.
The Chief Minister said that the government considers the Transport Corporation as a “medium of service” and is committed to making it modern, self-reliant, and people-oriented. With transparent policies and accountability, Uttarakhand is continuously moving forward on the path of progress. On this occasion, Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Subodh Uniyal, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs Khajandas, Umesh Sharma Kau, and Mrs. Savita Kapoor, MD Transport Corporation and Additional Secretary Mrs. Reena Joshi, and officers of the Transport Department were present.
