Dehradun: The cabinet approved the formation of Uttarakhand Religious and Pilgrimage Council for better management of travel and big fairs in the state. Chardham Yatra, Adi Kailash, Purnagiri, Nanda Devi Rajjat Yatra will be conducted through the council. The state government will provide a separate budget to the council for arrangements and management.
Pilgrimage has been a major tourism mode of Uttarakhand. Which includes Chardham Yatra, Nanda Devi Rajjat Yatra, Adi Kailash Yatra and many other major travels. Due to better transport system in the state along with increased road and air connectivity, the number of devotees in travel and fairs is increasing.
In view of this, the state government constituted the Uttarakhand Dharmsw and Pilgrimage Council for better management, control and administration of religious pilgrimages and fairs. Now, through the council, work will be done to make the pilgrimages and fairs smooth and safe along with basic facilities, infrastructure development, maintenance for the devotees coming to the pilgrimages and fairs.
A high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan had prepared a draft for the formation of the council. The cabinet approved it. The council will be constituted at three levels. At the state level, the council headed by the Chief Minister will do the work of policy formulation.
While the council headed by the Chief Secretary will have the responsibility of monitoring and evaluation. A council will be constituted under the chairmanship of divisional commissioners for implementation and planning in both the divisions. The divisional commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon will be the CEOs of the council in their respective divisions.
