Uttarakhand’s District Magistrate was honored by the President. Find out why.

Rudrapur: Udham Singh Nagar district has been ranked fourth in the country under the Government of India’s Prime Minister’s Tribal Justice Maha Abhiyan (PM Janman Abhiyan). President Draupadi Murmu honored District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria with an award. District Magistrate Nitin Bhadauria stated that this honor was achieved due to the active participation of all the district officials and the hard work of the employees.

Udham Singh Nagar has secured fourth place in the country under the Prime Minister’s Tribal Development Mission (PM Janman) program. The Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate was honored by President Draupadi Murmu in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the program on November 15, 2023, on the occasion of Lord Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, to integrate vulnerable tribal groups into the mainstream and ensure their all-round development. Under this program, the target is to bring more than 2.8 million people from approximately 75 communities in India’s 75 tribal districts into the mainstream.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide basic amenities to tribal communities. These include education, health, clean drinking water, electricity, housing, roads, mobile networks, and livelihood opportunities. The PM Janaman Yojana has a budget of approximately ₹24,000 crore, which will be spent over the next three years. It is being implemented in collaboration with the central government, state governments, and local bodies. Another objective of this program is to preserve the traditions and culture of tribal communities and make them self-reliant. A significant portion of the tribal population in Uttarakhand belongs to the Bhotia, Tharu, Jaunsari, and Raji communities. Most of these communities reside in border and inaccessible mountainous areas, where lack of access and resources has long been a challenge. Under the Janaman Yojana, improved road connectivity, school upgrades, the establishment of health centers, the expansion of nutrition programs, and the creation of self-employment opportunities are being implemented for these communities in Uttarakhand.

In Udham Singh Nagar, 43 tribal villages, comprising 99 hamlets, are covered under the PM Janaman Yojana. With a population of 40,881, 6,886 families are particularly vulnerable. Of these, 824 families were identified as homeless. Housing has been approved for all these families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and the first installment has been released to 97 families in the first phase. Land has been allotted for the construction of a 100-bed hostel for tribal children in Kulha village, Gadarpur, and construction work has begun with a total of ₹2.75 crore (2.75 crore rupees). A sum of ₹123.75 lakh (123.75 lakh rupees) has been allocated. Similarly, an Anganwadi center is under construction in Chunpuri, Gadarpur, and four multi-purpose buildings are under construction in Maholichain, Bhikampuri, Singhali, and Semalpuri in Bajpur at a cost of ₹123.44 lakh (123.44 lakh rupees).
