“Vande Mataram was betrayed, Congress tore it into pieces, Nehru’s throne was shaken,” PM Modi said in Parliament: 10 key points

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday initiated the debate on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha. PM Modi once again criticized the Congress party and Jawaharlal Nehru over Vande Mataram. Here are 10 key points PM Modi made in the House regarding Vande Mataram…

  1. Initiating a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram’s composition, PM Modi said, “It is a privilege for all of us to remember Vande Mataram; we are witnessing a historic occasion.”
  2. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said, “Vande Mataram is not just a mantra of political independence; it was a sacred war cry to liberate Mother India from the remnants of colonialism.”
  3. Speaking in Parliament, PM Modi said that Congress tore Vande Mataram into pieces. This was his method of pursuing appeasement politics. Under the pressure of appeasement politics, Congress yielded to the partition of Vande Mataram. Therefore, Congress one day had to yield to the partition of India as well.
  4. PM Modi said, “Mohammad Ali Jinnah raised the slogan against Vande Mataram from Lucknow on October 15, 1936. This caused the then Congress President Jawaharlal Nehru to see his throne in jeopardy. Instead of giving a befitting reply to the Muslim League’s baseless statements and condemning them, the opposite happened. He began investigating Vande Mataram itself.”
  5. Looking towards the Congress leaders, PM Modi said in the House, “When Vande Mataram celebrated its 100th anniversary, the country was shackled by the Emergency. The Constitution of India was strangled.”
  6. PM Modi said, “The Emergency was a dark chapter in our history. We now have an opportunity to restore the greatness of Vande Mataram. I believe this opportunity should not be missed.
  7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that despite widespread emotional attachment to Vande Mataram over the past century, injustice was done to it. He said its history should be shared with the younger generation.
  8. PM Modi said, “The decision to tear up Vande Mataram was disguised as an act of social harmony. However, history bears witness to the fact that the Congress surrendered to the Muslim League and this was done under pressure from the Muslim League. This was a way for the Congress to pursue appeasement politics.”
  9. Referring to the Muslim League’s opposition and M.A. Jinnah’s stance, PM Modi said that Jawaharlal Nehru had expressed concern to Subhas Chandra Bose in this regard. Instead of strongly supporting the song, Anandamath argued that it might hurt Muslim sentiments.
  10. PM Modi said, “Vande Mataram wasn’t just a political battle cry. Vande Mataram wasn’t just about letting the British go and us stand on our own path. It was a fight for independence, a fight to liberate this motherland. It was a sacred war to free Mother India from those shackles.” (Input: PTI)
