- Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the former Indian Foreign Secretary who retired from the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in July, has been nominated as India’s next Ambassador to the United States. The Ministry of External Affairs has officially communicated Kwatra’s nomination to the US government. A formal announcement is anticipated following the completion of the necessary formalities in the US.
The position of Ambassador to the US had been vacant for the past six months following the retirement of Taranjit Singh Sandhu in January.
Vinay Mohan Kwatra served as Foreign Secretary until July 15, succeeding Vikram Misri. Kwatra’s career includes significant diplomatic postings in China, the United States, the Prime Minister’s Office, and as India’s envoy to France, prior to assuming the role of Foreign Secretary in April 2022.
