Dehradun: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Ganesh Godiyal has written to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to address the increasing incidents of conflict between wildlife and humans. Leopards and bears have become synonymous with terror in Uttarakhand, especially in the hilly districts. Bears have become particularly aggressive and are even entering human settlements and attacking. In light of this, Ganesh Godiyal has written a letter to CM Dhami.
Congress State President Ganesh Godiyal wrote a letter to CM Dhami: In his letter, Congress State President Ganesh Godiyal stated that incidents of wildlife attacks on civilians are increasing from time to time in various parts of the state’s hilly districts. A record increase in such incidents has been recorded in the last few years. Therefore, it is important to investigate the reasons behind the increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict.
Appeal to CM Dhami to take steps to prevent human-wildlife conflict: Godiyal said that Garhwal MP Anil Baluni, while speaking with the Union Minister, was asking what could be the reasons for the increasing incidents of conflict between humans and wildlife. Everyone is concerned about this and wants to know the reasons. He said that whatever the reasons, effective measures should be taken immediately to prevent these incidents. However, nothing seems to be happening at present.
Demand for publicizing government announcements: Ganesh Godiyal said that Chief Minister Dhami also stated that the compensation for loss of life due to wildlife attacks has been increased from ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh. However, increasing the compensation alone is not the solution to the problem. Godiyal said that the Chief Minister should issue clear instructions to departmental officials to prevent incidents of human-wildlife conflict, and those instructions should also be made public, highlighting the precautionary measures taken by officials to prevent these incidents. This has not yet been made public.
Ganesh Godiyal met with people injured in wildlife attacks: Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal stated that the government has decided to provide free treatment or reimbursement of bills to those injured by wildlife. However, no orders have been issued in this regard. He also demanded in the letter that if the government has issued any such orders, they should be made public so that the general public can get relief. Godiyal stated that he met some people injured in wildlife attacks in Pauri district two days ago. However, he clearly stated that they have not yet received any compensation or medical expenses.
