Dehradun: On the opposition to live-in relationships under the Uniform Civil Code implemented in the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that his government will not back down on this. However, whatever suggestions come, they will be welcomed. The Chief Minister was speaking in a TV channel program in New Delhi.
The Chief Minister said that in the 2022 elections, we had promised the people of the state that if the BJP government is formed, then we will implement the Uniform Civil Code law in the state. We fulfilled our promise. On the opposition to live-in relationships, he said that of course it is not a part of our culture. But this subject has come up in the Supreme Court many times.
We are people who believe in democratic values. If any suggestion comes on live-in relationships, we will welcome it. But the government will not back down on this now. On the question related to the ban on reel culture during the Chardham Yatra, the Chief Minister said that the difference between pilgrimage and tourism has to be understood.
Will not go on the backfoot: Dhami
The Chardham Yatra should be a pure journey. The rules of travel have been made since the time of our ancestors. This journey is for religion. Running old reels sends a wrong message to the country and the world. The CM said that after the 2013 disaster, reconstruction work was done in Kedarnath under the leadership and guidance of PM Modi.
To make Kedarnath grand and divine, full attention was paid to ecology. Balance between ecology and economy is the model of development of our government. The Dhams have their own carrying capacity. Therefore, we are developing new places in the surrounding areas to control the pressure of the crowd. There is now a record of these relationships. There will be no change. Will not go on the backfoot. Will incorporate suggestions.
Disasters are the biggest challenge facing the state
The Chief Minister said that the biggest challenge facing the state of Uttarakhand is disasters. Incidents of cloudburst, landslides, avalanches occur frequently here. On the Silkyara tunnel accident, he said that this operation was successful with the guidance, sensitivity and cooperation of PM Modi. Today scientists are doing research on this.
We are law abiding citizens, that is why there is no opposition
The Chief Minister said that people of the country and the world look at Devbhoomi with faith and devotion. Therefore encroachment in the state is not right at any cost. The campaign to remove encroachment is not going to stop. In response to a question, he said that the campaign launched against illegal madrasas and tombs is not opposed because we are law abiding citizens. Every action and campaign in the state is being carried out under the law. Illegal tombs were built on government land at many places. We ran a campaign against this land jihad. About 6000 acres of government land was freed from encroachment. The identity of those studying in madrasas in the state was being hidden. Wherever madrasas were found to be illegal, they were sealed. We believe that the sanctity of Devbhoomi should remain intact.
Waqf law will also be implemented in the state
The Chief Minister said that we ran a verification campaign to protect the cultural identity of Devbhoomi and to stop the change in demography. UCC was implemented. Remove encroachments to stop land jihad. Strict law made to stop forced conversion. Waqf law will also be implemented in Uttarakhand.
